Participate at your peril! – and experience the dark and mysterious world of the Apothecary, a concocter and seller of drugs in the time of William Shakespeare. Watch, as he plies his trade, unlocking some of the secrets of the great poisonings of the Tudor Age. A production to die for! In turn, funny and deadly serious, life-affirming and life-threatening.
The show centres on an apothecary. The audience, in this inter-active production, are entertained as they discover the array of ingredients used to create different poisons, each with wild effects on the intended victims. The show combines science and storytelling to bring historical methods alive for a 21st century audience.
‘Whoops! Apothecary’ was first performed at Alnwick Castle to celebrate the Duchess of Northumberland’s famous Poison Garden which contains all the poisonous plants that may be found in Britain. The show has since been performed all around the country from Hampton Court Palace to Plas Mawr in North Wales for CADW. It is half an hour long and designed to be part of a visitor’s perambulation of a garden or house. It may be performed throughout the day.
